Camp Fire Girls Council Fire Camp Shawano Miami Valley Ohio 1950c postcard

The Camp Fire Girls organization was created in 1910-12 as a sister organization to the Boy Scouts of America to provide girls the opportunity to participate in similar experiences their brothers, cousins, and school friends were able to enjoy in the scouts. Camps were established for these camp fire activities across the USA with the Council Fire being one of the highlights of the Camp Fire experience.

Today the organization, now known simply as Camp Fire since the admission of boys in 1975, describes itself as a "nonprofit youth organization focused on building self-esteem, character development, leadership skills, and social responsibility."

I spent 1968 through1984 as a camper, CIT, counselor and finally Waterfront Director at Camp Shawano. I was delighted to see this. Many happy memories here.

I spent each summer of1970 thru1982 as a camper, kitten, CIT, and a counselor at Camp Shawano at Kiser Lake. Some of the best memories of my life--forever! Loved the picture! Looks like the meadow fire ring. Awesome times! Awesome friends! Awesome memories!

I spent many summers at camp shawaoo with my sister. First as a camper and then as a kitten and cit. some of the best memories of my childhood. I remember the camp pranks the kitten and cit and councillor played on each other. I remember the last night ceremony crying cuz I didn't want to leave the new friends I made. I remember having a counsellor named Karen and she carried a pocket knife in her pocket all the time. We sewed it into her pocket when she was sleeping one night. And when she went to get it out she couldn't. I thought it was so funny.
