The steamer Avalon on the Catalina Island run in the 1910s. 300 feet long and 42 feet beam she was equipped with two oil-burning engines producing about 1500 horsepower each. The caption on the reverse of the postcard also describes the Avalon as a "floating palace" equipped with state rooms, de luxe cabins, rest rooms and two "magnificent ballrooms".
